CONSEQUECES OF EXTREME TRAUMATIZATION

For more than 50 years, the armed conflict in Colombia has resulted in severe human rights violations. Despite existing laws that provide for the demobilization of armed groups and the return of land, a stable and continuous peace has not been achieved until now. The current peace processes have been criticized by various nongovernmental organizations and victims’ associations for not meeting the needs of victims. In addition, they say, individuals continue to face constant threats and ongoing human rights violations.

To date, there has been little systematic research on the psychological consequences of the conflict. The aim of the study was therefore to examine victims of the civil war in Colombia with regard to the psychological consequences of the violent conflict, as well as to record attitudes and wishes with regard to the rehabilitation processes.
